From India to Inspiration: Finding Motivation Through Dance & Connection

In 2022, I travelled to India for the first time, just after my mum passed away.

It was a cliché awakening in many ways – full of colour, sound, and a deeper connection to myself. Recently, while looking back through old videos from that trip, I was reminded of how alive I felt, surrounded by people, dance, and the simple joy of being present.

Fast forward to my most recent visit, and the experience was very different.

A difficult encounter left me shaken, and when I returned home, I felt the need to retreat. My nervous system was overwhelmed, and instead of reaching out, I found myself withdrawing, hiding away, and losing touch with the very things that usually fuel my energy and motivation.

Then I stumbled on that old video from 2022. It reminded me of something essential: I thrive on connection and dance. These are two of my primary motivators, and without them, I lose touch with what makes me feel alive.

So, I reached out to a group of mums I’ve known online for over a decade. We’ve shared everything from pirate ship parties and bingo nights to simple lunches and heavy metal gigs – but it had been far too long since we’d gathered in person. I decided to change that. I invited them over for an evening of dance, laughter, and conversation.

It wasn’t just about having fun (though we did). It was about remembering that motivation comes from knowing what drives you. When you understand your core values and motivators, you can overcome overwhelm, clear the brain fog, and live in alignment with what truly matters.

One friend commented that she was impressed at how I “make things happen.” The truth is, I wasn’t always this way. But over time I’ve learned tools for creating vision, identifying my motivators, and living consciously with my values. That shift has given me the clarity and confidence to step forward with energy and purpose.

And here’s the thing: everyone has 3–5 key motivators that drive their behaviour. When you uncover yours, you’ll find it easier to build habits, follow through on goals, and take action with enthusiasm instead of exhaustion.

If you’re struggling to get things done, or if you feel stuck in overwhelm, coaching can help you reconnect with your values and motivators. Together, we can uncover what drives you, so you can move forward with focus, energy, and joy.

Ask yourself: What are the activities that light you up, no matter what? What makes your soul sing?

If you’d like support finding your motivators and learning how to use them to overcome overwhelm, send me a message – I’d love to help.
